Volunteer at Green County LWCD

We are always happy to have people volunteer their time and energy to assist with conservation throughout the county. However, with current Covid protocols, we do not have any volunteer opportunities at this time.

Local volunteers have helped:

  • build fish habitat structures
  • manage prairie burns
  • conducted prairie walks for school children
  • and stream monitoring

We are currently in need of volunteers for stream monitoring. Stream monitors will be trained using parameters developed by WAV. Water Action Volunteers (WAV) is a statewide program for Wisconsin citizens who want to learn about and improve the quality of Wisconsin’s streams and rivers. The program is coordinated through a partnership between the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and the University of Wisconsin – Cooperative Extension.

Citizens’ groups from throughout Wisconsin are using Water Action Volunteers sampling protocols, between May and October to monitor the health of their hometown streams and rivers.

Entry level volunteers monitor:

  • dissolved oxygen
  • temperature
  • transparency
  • streamflow
  • habitat
  • and macroinvertebrates
